Because you see, pastels were never really my thing. I hated the generic pastel-coloured, school scrapbooks we were forced to buy in our primary school years. I also hated the fact that pastel crayons never really left any eminent effect unless on a black canvas. And I hated the fact that pastel colours made me feel soft. I associate them with superficiality somehow... and a shallow facet. Perhaps there's some psychological reason behind this, or they're just simply not my style.
On the other hand, I'm kind of loving the pastel-mix of outfits on the SS12 catwalks. [perhaps because of the novelty factor...]. Regardless, I have to admit, I'm enthralled by pastels paired with black. It balances the softness and adds depth to an image. I always think, an outfit is never made by a single item...such as a pretty dress - the whole image is what counts.
These are a few of my favourites from the Spring/Summer '12 catwalks.

Toughened-up pastels are a beauteous way to go about it - not to mention, a refreshing difference from the neutrals I preferred last summer...
