Ode to Metal

Indubitably, metallics have been a highlight this season - with endless choices, from tops to pants, to bags and jewellery. I'm not one to succumb to trends but with my recent obsession with studs, and black and gold - the metallics have somehow found their way into my wardrobe, or my wish list for this season. As always, balance is key. So an all-metallic, from top-to-bottom look is not the way to go. Sure enough it may seem tempting to fixate on one metallic and go from silver to gold and back to silver on one outfit. I'm into mixed metals don't get me wrong, and whoever said that an all-matching outfit is the safest way out (we've heard that myth - haven't we all?) is erring in so many ways. It is a fashion taboo, I might add. Experiment in all the ways imaginable, just be careful - we don't want too many of the carnival-esque, a weekend in February is already enough.

It would be sooo wrong to imply that metallics are solely found silver, gold or bronze. There is a plethora of colourful metallic options. It just goes down to whether it's your boat to catch. Style is personal and not trend-set!

Some metallic catwalk inspiration from FW11 - left to right: 3.1 Philip Lim, Alexander Wang, Haider Ackermann, Marc Jacobs; and some high-street colourful metallic market buys - Topshop sequin dress, ASOS clutch and ASOS bag.
